(June 5, 2016) – Venezuela defeats Jamaica, 1-0, with an excellent performance by the Arquimedes Figuera and Josef Martinez of the Venezuelan side. With this victory, Venezuela climbed to 2nd place of the group only behind Mexico that also won today.
During the first minutes, both teams created several chances with the most important one being a Jamaican header to the bar that gave hope to Jamaica to control the game, but Venezuela took control of the match after that opportunity with a passing game that overcame the physical game of the Jamaicans.
In the 15th minute of the match after a fantastic passing play by Alejandro Guerra and Salomon Rondon, that follows the assist to Josef Martinez that scored with a clinical shot under Andre Blake’s legs giving the “Vinotintos” the lead.
Jamaica tried to take control of the game but in the 23rd minute of the match, Rodolph Austin was sent off after a hard tackle on Venezuelan captain, Tomas Rincon, ankle. This red card left the Jamaican team with ten players for the rest of the game. With this advantage, Venezuela confirms the control of the match, with a couple of individual opportunities for the Jamaicans.
Venezuela will try to confirm the pass to the next round next Thursday, June 9, against Uruguay, if the “Vinotintos” want to win the next game they must improve their defense game to stop Uruguayans stars, Edinson Cavani, and Luis Suarez.Jamaica will try to recover from this defeat when they face CONCACAF neighbors Mexico on the same day.
