(June 8, 2016) – Ecuador and Peru drew 2-2 in a game full of emotions where Peru got a two goal early lead, but Ecuador was able to overcome the adversity situation to tie the game 2-2, a result that leaves Peruvians to fight with Brazil to qualify to the next round while Ecuador will play against the already eliminated Haiti.
The game started well to Peru with an early goal in the 5th minute of the match by Christian Cueva with a shot inside of the box that Ecuador’s Dominguez could not save. This created more controversy between the Ecuadorian fans who wanted Esteban Dreer in goal that started against Brazil, but the coach chose Dominguez instead. The controversy was lighted up when Peru scored the 3rd goal in the 13th minute of the game. A high definition from Edison Flores from inside the box gave Peru the confidence that they already received the victory in their hands. However, in soccer teams must fight until the end and that is what Ecuador did getting one goal back in the 39th minute of the game, Enner Valencia, the West Ham United striker, was going to give hope to the Ecuadorian side.
In the second half Ecuador started strong scoring just 3 minutes into the second half, this time, Miler Bolaños, equalized the game for Ecuador, this goal was going to wake up Peru, and the rest of the game was with both teams always creating opportunities without any luck.
With this draw, both teams will fight to qualify for the next round of the last match. Ecuador will play against the already eliminated Haiti this Sunday, June 12 while Peru will have to fight against Brazil in a game that they have to win if they want to be in the next round.
