(June 13, 2016) - Venezuela keeps surprising everyone with their performance in this Copa America, this time, drawing against Mexico. Mexico was behind on the scoreboard until the last moments of the game.
With both teams already qualified for the next round, both coaches decided to save some players for the next match. Venezuela was playing with up to 5 substitutes, Alexander Gonzalez (for Roberto Rosales), Jose Velazquez (for Oswaldo Vizcarrondo), Luis Seijas (for Arquimedes Figuera), Yonathan del Valle (for Josef Martinez) and Christian Santos (for Salomon Rondon). While Mexico played with up to 7 substitutes, two of the substitutes included goalkeeper Jose Corona and Hirving Lozano.
The game started well for Venezuela with an incredible goal in the 10th minute of the match by Jose Velazquez, who scored with a magnificent volley from a Christian Santon's assists. Venezuela played very well defensively when Mexico took the possession of the ball and went forward looking for a goal, with Jesus Corona and "Chicharito" coming up from the bench. Mexico was going to equalize in the 80th minute of the game thanks to a fantastic individual play by Jesus Corona, who left behind several Venezuelan defenders and score with a power shot inside of the box.
With this result Venezuela will play against Group D winner, with Argentina being a possible winner of this group with 2 wins in two games, this game will be play in Foxborough next Friday, June 18, at 7 PM (ET). While Mexico will play against the runner ups of Group D, the winner between Chile and Panama game, in Santa Clara, on the same day.
