(June 11, 2016) - The United States defeats Paraguay to qualify to the quarterfinals of the Copa America with a goal by Clint Dempsey, with this victory the USA wins the group "A" after Colombia's defeat against Costa Rica.
Jürgen Klinsmann repeated the same lineup that has used during the whole tournament. Brad Guzan on goal, John Brooks, and Geoff Cameron as center backs, DeAndre Yedlin, and Fabian Johnson as full backs, Michael Bradley, Alejandro Bedoya and Jermaine Jones as holding midfielders and Bobby Woods, Gyasi Zardes and Clint Dempsey on the attack, this is also the expected lineup for the quarterfinals.
A game that counted with several clear opportunities for both teams. Paraguay was creating the most dangerous opportunities thanks to the speed of Derlis Gonzalez and Antonio Sanabria on top. A great defensive game by John Brooks (MVP of the match) and Brad Guzan on goal gave the USA a solid night on defense especially after DeAndre Yedlin's red card that left the USA with 10 men for most of the second half.
The goal came in the firs half thanks to a great run by LA Galaxy's Gyasi Zardes. Zardes escaped Miguel Samudio's mark and set an assist to Clint Dempsey, who did not miss and scored the only goal of the game.
The USA will play the quarterfinals next Thursday, June 16, against the runner-up of Group "B" that could be Ecuador, if the defeat Haiti, Peru or Brazil (If Ecuador does not win against Haiti).
