(June 11, 2016) - Costa Rica defeats Colombia 3-2 in favor of the USA, who wins the group due to goal difference. This victory does not let the Costa Ricans qualify to the next round, but they finish their participation in this Copa with a win. Colombia already qualified to the next round. Colombia used this opportunity to give minutes to the players who have not been able to play yet, and this might have cost them the first place.
The game started fast with Costa Rica taking the lead with a quick goal by Montreal Impact's Johan Venegas. A fantastic individual play that ended up in a stunning long shot to the top right corner of Robinson Zapata's goal. Just 5 minutes later Colombia equalized the game thanks to a goal by left back, Frank Fabra. Fabra was going to have a peculiar record after he scored an own goal giving Costa Rica the lead in the first half. He is the first players in 100 years of Copa America to score a goal and an own goal in the same game.
During the second half, Colombia tried to rescue the game introducing James Rodriguez and Juan Cuadrado. But the Costa Ricans scored a third goal thanks to Celso Borges in the 58' minute of the match. Colombia was seeing that the game was escaping their hands they pushed forward. Getting one goal back thanks to Marlos Moreno but that was not enough because the match ended 3-2 in favor of Costa Rica.
Colombia will play next Friday, June 17, against the winner of Group "B" at the Metlife Stadium.
