On a cool, beautiful evening here in Kissimmee, at HP Field House at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, in the fourth game, of the final day, of the Advocare Invitational tournament, the Stanford University Cardinals defeated the Seton Hall University Pirates, 66-52. It was low-scoring, sloppy affair for most of the game until the second half.
In the first half, it was a bit of a sloppy affair between both teams. Stanford struggled to make shots as they only converted 37.5% of their shots, while Seton Hall converted on 48% of their shots. However, where they struggled was with turnovers. Seton Hall had 10 turnovers in the first half compared to six by Stanford.
Stanford forward Reid Travis led all scorers with 10 points at the end of the first half. He also tied for the team lead in rebounds with five. Guard Dorian Pickens also added eight points and five rebounds. Seton Hall was led by guard Khadeen Carrington, who had eight points and forward Michael Nzei led the team in rebounds with six.
In the second half, Stanford started out with an explosive 12-3 run and after that point, they never relinquished the lead. The closest Seton Hall got in the second half was within six points. While in the first half Stanford struggled with making their shots, in the second half, Seton Hall struggled to make their shots. Seton Hall converted on 28% of their shots in the second half bringing their game total to 38%. Stanford on the other hand, 48% of their shots in the second half, bringing their game total to 42.1%.
Stanford was led by Pickens, who finished with 21 points which led all scorers. Travis added 16 points and led the team in rebounds with seven. Even though Seton Hall outrebounded Stanford 37 to 31, Stanford was able to force Seton Hall into turning the ball over 23 times, while they only turned it over 15 times. Stanford got 23 points off of turnovers.
Seton Hall was led by Carrington, who finished with 20 points. He was the only Seton Hall player to score in double figures. Forward Angel Delgado led the team in rebounds with nine and Nzei was second on the team in rebounds with eight and second in scoring with nine points.
Stanford will return home, to the Maples Pavilion, to face the Saint Mary’s College of California Gaels on Wednesday, November 30th at 8PM PST. Seton Hall will return home, to the Prudential Center, to face the Columbia University Lions on Thursday, December 1st at 7PM EST.
