(July 21, 2016) - The ACC and College Football season is just one month away, and the teams are preparing for the battle. The Canes are looking forward to the start of a new era this season with former alumni, Mark Richt, in his first season as the head coach. Richt spent the last 15 years as the head coach of Georgia, his experience, and feelings about the Hurricanes can be the combination that may take Miami to the ACC Championship.
During the ACC Kickoff press conference in Charlotte, North Carolina. Coach Richt addressed the difficulty of the league and the how special it is for him to coach Miami University. "I think the league is deeper and tougher top to bottom, and it's going to be a great challenge, being back in my alma matter is huge for me, and I do not have any other plans than finishing my coaching career here in Miami. It has been great to have so much support from former players, and the fanbase has shown a lot of support."
Accompanying Coach Richt, were Miami's punter, Justin Vogel and their quarterback Brad Kaaya. Both players demonstrated their happiness with the new coach and set the objective of the season to win the ACC championship.
Justin Vogel, the punter, talked about the respect he has for the new coach and how special it is for Richt to be back at The U "The fact that he is an Alum it draws him more... playing for your alma matter is special. It's about coming back to your hometown and prove yourself again, and this feels really well for us because it gives us more support during the games".
Brad Kaaya, the Canes quarterback, addressed the difference between last year's feeling and the feeling as the start of the season approaches this year. " We have a great positive energy, and we want to keep this momentum."
Kaaya also talked about Coach Richt's role in his career "He gained the respect of the guys immediately. I have a lot of faith in my coach, and he trusts me. It is nice to have a coach that see's football the same way as I do. He is always calling me to check on me, and that gives me a lot of comfort because it shows me that he is a guy that I can count on."
University of Miami will start the 2016 season at home against Flordia A&M Rattlesnakes on the 3rd of September, and they will look to start a successful era for Mark Richt and the Miami Hurricanes.
