MIAMI, Fla. (December 19, 2015) - The teams participating in the Miami Beach Bowl, USF and WKU, shifted their focus from practice and beach activities as they made a special visit to Feeding South Florida this morning.
Each team was assigned a warehouse where players, coaches and staff from both teams would help sort and arrange donated food, which later would be distributed to families in-need in the Miami area.
The teams shared laughs and smiles as they worked together to help the lives of many who will benefit from their hard work.
"It's awesome to be here at Feeding South Florida because a lot of our kids grew up getting these resources that they offer," said USF's Wide Receiver Coach Ron Dugans.
"One out of four kids go to bed hungry every night and I think a lot of these guys used to take it for granted but now they see it first hand that people eat the things we throw away. I think this has been a really good experience for them to be involved in and help South Florida."
"With this experience, I can actually tell that we are doing something," said
WKU's Defensive Lineman Gavin Rocker. "This isn't just a media event or an event that we said that we did. You can actually tell that we are getting work done, so I am very glad that we are doing this activity."
The teams left feeling great knowing that they will make an impact on thousands of families in South Florida.
USF and WKU are ready to finish out the weekend's activities and go head-to-head on Monday as they compete to win the Miami Beach Bowl trophy. The second annual Miami Beach Bowl, which is owned and operated by the American Athletic Conference, will be played at Marlins Park in Miami, Fla. on Monday, Dec. 21, 2015 at 2:30 p.m. ET.
