Justin McBride scored a double-double to led the charge for the Knights Tuesday night with 19 points and 13 rebounds, as UCF defeated Georgia College 82-65 at CFE Arena. B.J. Taylor led the Knights in scoring for the 2nd straight game with 22 points, shooting 7 for 12 from the field.
UCF started pulling away from the Bobcats at the 14-minute mark of the first period after the Knights went on a 10-0 run in 4 minutes and 18 seconds to go up 21-11.
The Bobcats would not back down though, after going on a 14-5 run drawing within 1 of the Knights with 4:28 left in the 1st making it 26-25.
“We talked about defense and sharing the basketball. I thought we went out there and we were shooting to quick.” Said UCF head coach Donnie Jones when asked of his adjustments postgame.
UCF finished out the period strong as B.J. Taylor connected on a 3-pointer with just 5 seconds left in the half to make it 39-28. McBride went into the locker room at halftime leading the team in scoring and rebounds with 11 points and 6 boards.
“I just need to do what ever my team needs me to do. If its getting rebounds, if its scoring or being a leader or cheerleader. What ever the case may be, I just want to contribute.” Said McBride of his performance.
B.J. Taylor and the Knights opened up the 2nd half hot, extending their lead to 20 with Taylor scoring 7 points in 6 minutes making it 54-34 at the 14:32 mark.
The Bobcats would only be able to cut the Knights lead to 13, but that came with 33 seconds left in regulation. Senior forward Larrentis Thomas led the Bobcats in scoring and rebounding, accumulating a double – double of his own with 18 points and 12 rebounds on the night.
UCF will open their regular season schedule against Stetson on Sunday at CFE Arena, with a 6pm scheduled tipoff.
