The New Image Youth Center, a charity that is dedicated to helping inner-city kids in the Parramore neighborhood of Orlando, was robbed on September 14th. The thieves took over $6000 worth of equipment that was used regularly by the kids at the center.
When members of the Ruckus support group hear about the incident they new they had to do something, as Jeanna Malines, VP of PR for the support group stated, “To take from children already struggling to find opportunity in our community was beyond reprehensible. We started out with a goal of raising $2500 and we reached that in less than a week.”
As Ms. Stubbs described her elation for the assistance, she also expressed her grief. “Its not my stuff that was take, it was the kids. It hurts to know that people would take from kids that truly need.” said Shante.
Kay Rawlins spoke of the close relationship with the center afterwards, “We have been working closely with them over the past two years and were so sorry to hear about the robbery. It was great to see the look on the kids’ faces when they saw the check.”
“Were so thankful to have all the support that Orlando City soccer gives us.” said Shante.
Its the moments like these that keep our world turning in a positive light. When we take the time to look to our left and our right instead of just focusing on what is right in front of us we are able to see those that need us to reach out to them. Make it a point in your daily life to reach out. No matter how successful or big we get in life its important for us not to forget about those in need and those that now walk the paths that we once walked.
As we look at the acts of Monday October 7th, its clear to see, Orlando City and their supporters truly care for this city and its people and continue to make an impact even in the excitement of an jump to the MLS.
