All proceeds to aid United For Puerto Rico Initiative
ORLANDO, FL. - In the wake of the hurricane devastation across the island of Puerto Rico, Orlando City SC will play a friendly against the Puerto Rico National Team at Orlando City Stadium to raise funds and aid recovery efforts for the United For Puerto Rico initiative.
The friendly will take place one week after the Lions’ last game of 2017. Details, including date, time and ticket information, will be announced at a later date.
“Hurricanes Irma and Maria affected all of Puerto Rico and personally touched the lives of many in the Orlando community with strong ties to the island,” Orlando City SC Majority Owner Flavio Augusto da Silva said. “We want to support our community and bring our partners together to join the tremendous efforts we’ve seen across this city to help their friends and families in need.”
According to the latest U.S. Census data, nearly a third of the 1 million Puerto Ricans living in the state of Florida reside in Orlando.
“We are committed to making this a successful event with our partners' and fans’ support, and will vow to give 100 percent of the net proceeds to the United For Puerto Rico initiative,” added da Silva.
The United for Puerto Rico initiative is brought forth by the First Lady of Puerto Rico, Beatriz Rosselló, in collaboration with the private sector, with the purpose of providing aid and support to those affected by the damage from Hurricane Irma and Hurricane María in Puerto Rico.
