“I’m obviously very pleased with the performance. The players gave us everything that they could and I’m really pleased. They deserve thanks for what they did because it’s not an easy thing to be trained the way they’ve been trained and also the sacrifice they’ve made for the club, fans and staff,” Orlando City Head Coach Jason Kreis said. “What I really liked was that there was really a sense of urgency to how they approached the first 15-20 minutes of the game and I think that should became a trademark of Orlando City.”
The Lions played the first half well, with determination and urgency just like the coach said as Kevin Molino scored the first goal of the match in the 13th minute with an assist from Rafael Ramos. They then continued their aggressive attack, scoring their second goal seven minutes later to give themselves a 2-0 lead as the teams went into the locker room at the half.
The second half was no different as the players put in their all for the remaining minutes of the match and scored 2 extra goals for team. Christian Higuita gave Orlando City their 3rd goal, with it being his first goal of the season. Julio Baptista then connected with the net just 14 minutes later after being substituted in and gave the team its 4th goal.
D.C. United’s goals both came in the 2nd half with the first coming from Alvaro Saborio and the second from Kennedy Igboananike.
Orlando Citys players Christian Higuita, Kevin Molino and Kaka all had something to say about the their performance that night and how it felt to play with the team.
“’It’s very exciting for me. It’s my first goal in two seasons here with MLS and I’ve been working hard to reached this point and hope I continue to keep doing so,” Christian Higuita said.
Kaka then had a few words to say on the next season. “We have to look forward to the next season and take lessons from these 2 years. This is a good thing to learn if we want different results.” The Orlando City Captain then said that the team had the motivation to win and that supporters should expect that next season.
Kevin Molino added by saying that he had very good memories with his team and that he couldn’t wait to get back with them after the vacation.
