The match got heated fast with the goal from Hines in the 6th minute. The first half was very tight with much defense from Orlando City SC until the 13th minute when a great goal by Seattle Clint Dempsey hit the net drawing the match 1-1.
The rest of the first half was dominated by Seattle with various shots on goal creating desperation from the Lions then leading to a yellow card for a foul on Antonio Nocerino of Orlando.
The second goal by Clint Dempsey in the 2nd minute of added time put the Sounders in the lead at 2-1 as the first half came to a close. A couple of tries from Cyle Larin and Seb Hines put the crowd on the edge of their seats, but both shots ended up going wide.
The second half of the game started with a great third goal by Clint Dempsey putting Seattle up by 2. After the goal, referee Allen Chapman began to lose control of the game, issuing four yellow cards in less than 10 minutes. The first Card was given to Cristian Roldan of Seattle for a hard foul against the Lions in the 63rd minute. The Sounders were making many fouls and taking away from the pace and momentum that Orlando City was trying to build up. A second card was issued in the 72nd minute to Sounders player Osvaldo Alonso because of repetitive fouling.
The rest of the second half was Dominated by Orlando City as they looked for a goal. An earnest attempt on target by Ricardo Kaka in the 73’ minute created a big stir up from the crowd, but it ended up going to the left of the post. Julio Baptista entered the match and changed the dynamic. Various shots were created all of which were stopped by the Sounders goalkeeper. In the 83rd minute, David Mateos picked up a yellow card, which brought his season tally of yellows to a suspension which could hurt the Lions.
In the post-game conference, the coach for Orlando City Jason Kreis addressed that they are trying hard not to allow gaps during the game to create opportunities for goals to the other team, “Obviously we were allowing their players to find the gaps we talked about we didn’t want to allow them to find. They found those gaps, they were able to turn and then they were playing passes in behind us. I think we had a little bit of confusion with our back four for what we were trying to do. Felt like we were almost trying to play an offside trap and that’s certainly not what we were asking.”
Orlando City will go on the road to pay against the Chicago Red Stars on August 14th, looking to get an away win. City comes back to Camping World Stadium on August 24 in a match against Toronto FC.
