The Montreal Impact took the lead early on in the 4th minute of the game, with an incredible individual play by Ignacio Piatti. His shot ended up being deflected by Orlando’s defender Rafael Ramos and went behind Joe Bendik into the net.
After Montreal’s first goal, the Impact controlled most of the first half creating several chances with Dominic Oduro, Ignacio Piatti and Lucas Ontivero knocking on Orlando’s door. But it was Bendik coming up with several saves for Orlando to keep things close. Orlando looked nervous being behind on the scoreboard, conceding 10 fouls and getting 2 yellow cards in the first half. (Adrian Winter and Brek Shea).
In the 42nd minute, the game turned tides with Cyle Larin’s header finding the back of the net, coming off an assist by Kaka from a great free kick cross. This was Larin’s fifth goal of the season after a 3 game drought.
During the second half of the game, both Orlando and Montreal traded attacking chances, with several clear opportunities from Orlando’s Larin, Rivas and Kaka, and Montreal’s Venegas, Ontivero, and Oduro. Both goalkeepers had great performances with crucial saves, especially from Orlando’s Bendik, who saved 6 attempts by Montreal.
In the 74th minute Orlando’s coach, Adrian Heath, gave the opportunity to Julio Baptista to come into the game. This would give Orlando the final push on attack, while Montreal was missing Didier Drogba, who didn’t played due to an injury. During the last 5 minutes of the game, Orlando pushed forward with several clear occasions until they found the winning goal after an amazing combination by Baptista and Kaka, whom served Cyle Larin his second goal of the night and his sixth of the season giving Orlando City SC a much needed victory after a 6 game winless streak.
After the game Orlando’s coach, Adrian Heath, address the importance of this victory for the next games of the season “That goal (Larin’s first goal) was a turning point on the season… and I say we might win 3 or 2 of the next games and we will probably be 2nd on 3rd on the league”
Orlando City SC comes back to Camping World Stadium this Wednesday May 25th, to face the Philadelphia Union, the current leaders of the Eastern Division. They will then head back on the road to play against New York City FC at Yankee Stadium, Sunday May 29th.
