Former Brazil international has been a critical element in Orlando City’s current success as a club. Not only has Kaká managed to score 25 goals and 22 assists in 77 appearances during his three seasons at the club, but has also been a significant reason for the club’s popularity both within the local community and the global markets. He was also an MLS All-Star in the three years he played for the club and is the club’s all-time leader in assists.
“You were a very important piece, element, ingredient for the success of this Club, this stadium, this community (…) I would like to thank you very much.” Said Club majority owner Flávio Augusto da Silva during the announcement.
Kaká was unclear on what his future plans are. Earlier in the week he gave an interview to Globo Esporte in which he claimed to be losing interest in playing soccer. However, in the announcement Wednesday Kaká said: “The announcement today is for that and just for that. My decision now is just to not renew my contract with Orlando City.”
This raises the question on whether he will be announcing retirement soon, or if he will be going back to Brazil to play in the local league.
