Though maintaining possession over 60% of the match, Orlando City was unable to capitalize off of 12 shots and only put one of those shots on target throughout the match.
In the 22nd minute of the match we saw our first card of the game, it was a yellow awarded to Gershon Kooffie of Vancouver after a tough challenge at midfield. The Whitecaps tallied 5 yellow cards during the match.
In the 26th minute, Lions midfielder Eric Avila found the ball at the top of the penalty arc and took a shot that missed high. The Lions continued their attack as Molino went inside the box and was taken down on a tough challenge in the 31st minute, but no penalty was called, as it was a fair challenge.
The Whitecaps rallied and answered back with an attack of their own. Donavan Ricketts just barley got a piece of a shot by the Whitecaps on a one-on-one between Octavio Rivero and Ricketts in the 34th minute as it rolled wide left of the goal and gave Vancouver a corner. Off the corner, Vancouver’s Rivero was able to get off another shot, this time a laser of a shot that sailed just high and hit the cross bar.
At halftime it was still a scoreless match, with both teams exchanging four shots each including one shot on target for either team.
In the second half Orlando City got off 8 shots and looked anxious to surely score a goal to give them their first home win of the season.
As full time was approaching with still no goal yet on the board, Kaka was going all out for Orlando City. He launched off a shot in the 87th minute, but just missed wide right of the goal.
In the 90th minute Kaka centered the ball with a pass to Cyle Larin who sent his shot just wide of goal. Larin subbed into the match in the 73rd minute in relief of Pedro Ribeiro, this was the Lions only substitution of the match.
As we reached full time the referee announced 4 minutes of added time for the Whitecaps and Lions to determine their fate. But in the 95th minute Jordan Harvey was given a yellow card for wasting time.

It marks the Lions first loss of their inaugural MLS season, one that Manager Adrian Heath did not foresee happening.
“I thought if anybody was gonna win it, we were gonna win the game. If I’m being perfectly honest, I think we’ve had to many nearlies all night. It was nearly good play, it was nearly a good ball, it was nearly a good cross.” said coach Heath of the Lions performance on the night
Orlando City will now prepare for their first MLS match of the season outside of the States, as they head to Montreal to face the Impact who are still looking for their first win of the season with a 0-1-1 record to date.
