Citrus Bowl will be the home for Orlando City SC while they wait for their new stadium to be completed for the 2016 MLS season.
They announced this during a press conference, which was held at the Orlando Citrus Bowl in Central Florida, the same stadium where the team is playing against New York City FC on March 8th. The event was hosted alongside the MLS Commissioner, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs; head coach Adrian Heath and new Orlando City star Ricardo Kaka.
The first official Major League Soccer (MLS) game in the state of Florida since 2001 is set to kick-off at 5:00 p.m. ET, against fellow expansion franchise New York City FC. Major soccer stars such as Ricardo Kaká and David Villa will make their first-ever MLS appearance on the inaugural match of the 2015 season.
Ricardo Kaka was the center of attention among the guests in the press conference. He manifested his excitement for joining Orlando City’s historical moment on becoming the newest MLS expansion in the Eastern Conference.
“It will be amazing. Our first Orlando City game on this historical day for the club,” said Kaka exuberantly. “I have played in three massive clubs in my career: Sao Paulo, Real Madrid and Milan. With Orlando is different. I will be born with this club. On their first official MLS game day.”
The club also announced a significant increase regarding their fans and season pass holders. Reaching over 11,000 season tickets sold on their marketing campaign so far.
“The majority are family-based season tickets among other individual buyers,” said Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs.
Also, the franchise has stated that their hashstag “#FillTheBowl” will be surfing the web in Spanish and Portuguese. The club is completely confidant this particular campaign will be a success and the Citrus Bowl will be packed with an outrageous atmosphere.
The dream for Orlando City is finally becoming real after 7 years of hard work in the soccer industry. Their first MLS game being held as locals is their biggest motivation to win their first 3 points. Central Florida will witness one of the most memorable days for the arising of the newest MLS expansions when Orlando City SC and New York City FC face off on the pitch come early March.
