ORLANDO, Fla.--This upcoming Thursday, Florida State’s head coach Leonard Hamilton will lead the Seminoles against Doc Sadler and his Southern Miss Golden Eagles at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center. The Seminoles have a 10-1 record and are hoping to add another W on the 21st against a 7-4 team in the Golden Eagles who are currently 1st in Conference USA, and are on a four-game winning streak. Just four days ago Cortez Edwards scored 28 points and 12 rebounds to help The Golden Eagles get the upper hand over William Carey, and he will need to bring that same kind of energy to Tallahassee for a chance of an upset against the ‘Noles.
The last game played by Florida State was on the 18th against Charleston Southern . The Seminoles came away with an 11-point victory 69-58. Forward Phil Cofer led Florida state with 19 points while guard Terence Mann came away with 17 points and 7 assists.
In this matchup FSU has the upper hand due to the fact that they are averaging 83.9 points a game with a 49.4 field goal percentage. Where as USM is only averaging 74.6 points a game with an average of 46.4% with their field goals. The Seminoles also have the upper hand in rebounds (39.5) Assists (16.7) blocks (6.2) and Steals (9.0) Where the Golden Eagles only average (32.9) rebounds (15.7) assists (1.6) Blocks & (7.4) steals a game. Add that to the fact that Florida State remains undefeated at home while Southern Miss hold a 1-2 away record.
The last time Southern Miss and FSU faced each other was in 2016 when FSU wiped the floor with those golden birds in a 98-49 blowout. The Seminoles Made 14 3-pointers that game. And I hate to say it, but when a team is unable to hold down the perimeter that its pretty much game over. You can expect the Golden Eagles to come back down to Florida with a major chip on their shoulders this Thursday.
Catch the game at 2 p.m. ET on ACC Network Extra on Dec. 21, or if you can get a ticket than head over to the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center and catch the game live because this is one you defiantly don’t want to miss! Will The Eagles get that bad taste out of their mouth? Or will this just be business as usual for the Seminoles?
