Charleston, SC - On a chilly, evening here in Charleston, at TD Arena, in the final game of the Charleston Classic tournament on its’ first day, the College of Charleston Cougars defeated the Boise State University Broncos, 60-47. It was a close tough game with both teams starting out slow and playing better as the game went on.
In the first half, it was a bit of a sloppy, fast-paced kind of game. Both team missed numerous shots throughout and sometimes they were short, or just off the rim. It seemed like both teams were struggling a bit out of the gate. The Cougars seemed to be able to come out of the slow start a little bit faster than Boise State.
By the end of the first half, the Cougars had a 30-20 lead over Boise State. The Cougars were led offensively by guard Cameron Johnson, who six points and guard Joe Chealey who had four points, two rebounds and two assists. Boise State was led by guard Chandler Hutchinson, who finished the half with nine points, five rebounds and two assists. Boise State also out rebounded the Cougars 19 to 15 but were unable to take the lead.
In the second half, both teams seemed to play much faster but it was far little too late for Boise State. The Cougars scored 30 points in the second half and Boise State scored 27. The Cougars were led offensively by Chealey who finished the game with 15 points. Forward Jarrell Brantley had a double-double and finished the game with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Boise State was led by Hutchinson, who finished with a double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds.
The Cougars will face off against the University of Central Florida Knights tomorrow at 9:30 PM EST here at TD Arena. Boise State will go on to face the Mississippi State University Bulldogs at 7PM EST tomorrow.
