Written by Adrian Beecher Atlanta, GA- Defense was the name of the game in the first half, and a 26 yard pick-six by Alabama’s Ryan Anderson has the two scores at the end of the 1st half. Here’s the full 1st half recap.
Alabama won the toss and elected to defer to the 2nd half, the Huskies received the opening kick and were unable to get anything going. After three plays they would have to punt it away. The Tide would have the same luck on their first drive as Jalen Hurts was sacked on 3rd down. Then the Huskies got to work as Jake Browning ran for 13 yards to get the first 1st down of the game. Then 5 plays later, it was Browning connecting with Dante Pettis in the back right of the endzone for the TD score. This made it 7-0 with 8:01 left in the first quarter. The Tide then marched right down the field on the ensuing possession to answer. The score came on an 18 yard rushing TD from Bo Scarborogh to tie the game up with 5:01 left on the 1st quarter clock. The drive was 9 plays and went 78 yards, taking 3 minutes off the clock. Washington was able to get the ball moving on their next possession. However, after crossing midfield on a 7-yard pass from Browning to John Ross, Ross fumbled the ball and it was recovered by Tide D-Lineman Jonathan Allen, and Alabama took over 1st and 10 at the UW 40 yard line. Alabama would only pickup 1 first down on the possession and had to settle for a 43 yard field goal to take a 10-7 lead with 14:55 left in the first half. Most of the rest of the 2nd quarter was a defensive battle, with neither defense giving an inch. Then it happened, the Bama scoring defense struck for the 11th time of the season. It was on a 2nd and 10 with Washington lined up on their own 32-yard line. Jake Browning was under pressure and threw an arrant pass which was picked off by Ryan Anderson of Alabama and returned 26 yards for a TD score to make it 17-7 with 1:13 left in the 1st half. This is where things stood at the end of the 1st half. Neither team was able to get anything going in the passing game. Washington’s Jake Browning had 83 yards through the air, while Alabama’s Jalen Hurts had 23. On the ground, Alabama had 25 carries for 105 yards, while the Huskies had 16 carries for 62 yards. Written by Brett Korpi Atlanta, GA- At the end of the first quarter of the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, a young star with style and flair stole the show.
